In the late 1990's, on route to Japan and a new career as a business banker, Gord Johns visited the small surfing town of Tofino, British Columbia. That quick side-trip ended up changing Gord's life forever.
Devastated after witnessing the impacts of clearcutting on Clayoquot Sound, and inspired by the people he met during his stay, Gord decided to use his business skills to promote greener options to conventional, ecologically-damaging paper and clothing products. In 1997, he founded the first Ecoeverything store (then known as Fiber Options) in Tofino's rugged paradise.
Ecoeverything has always been a pioneer in the green and organic movement, and was one of the first stores of its kind in all of Canada. Committed to a triple bottom line business model, where profits are equally as important as social and environmental impacts, the stores are operated with utmost respect for the environment and the surrounding community.
Ecoeverything now has two locations to serve you - our Tofino store, and another in Victoria, BC.
To offer a diverse selection of ethical fashion and lifestyle choices,
and to support healthy living within our communities.
Environment
It unfortunately isn’t always a cut and dry answer when making healthier choices as a consumer. Do you purchase local or organic, biodegradable or vegan? There are many questions to ask!
We strive to source the best choices for a variety of eco-conscious lifestyles so that you can ultimately weigh out your options for a healthier lifestyle. All of our products are of superior quality, and fall into one or more of the following categories; Natural, Organic, Biodegradable, Vegan and Recycled. We source renewable and recycled resources. Our suppliers use materials including organic cotton, hemp, rayon or viscose from bamboo, merino wool, soy, silk and many more.
Our daily operations also adhere to strong environmental ethics. Store supplies and fixtures are sourced with the environment as a main concern. For more information about our practices, please contact us.
Community
Between our Victoria and Tofino locations, Ecoeverything belongs to 5 community building organizations such as Victoria’s Values Based Business Network. We donate to charity events, attend community events like the Organic Islands Festival, and we donate our time and services to a few of the boards and committees of whom we are members of. We get involved and we have fun doing it!
Social Responsibility
While we are a store committed to the environment, we must remember that there are many social and environmental issues that affect our global communities and the workers within them. We do our best to ensure we support healthy communities! We do business by building strong relationships with our suppliers, and by asking lots of questions.
We source as many Canadian made products as possible, but we do end up having some exceptions to this rule in the store. In the case of a product being made overseas, a relationship must be formed between us and the supplier and many questions are asked, including what type of certifications the factories have and what the working conditions are. We also carry a few lines that are certified Fair Trade, which support various co-ops around the world.
